CSI Sacramento Magnet Academy Competiton

On March 17, 2017 cadets from Hiram Johnson, Grant, John F. Kennedy and McClatchy high school competed in what we call The CSI Sacramento competition. This competition consist of different scenarios for patrol officers and CSI investigators. This year Hiram Johnson took first place for the first time in 5 years! McClatchy second, Grant third and Kennedy forth. This was a big accomplishment for us , everyone who competed worked extremely hard.

Hiram Johnson Magnet Officer Honored

On January 18, 2017, Officer Sam Davis received the Employee Of The Quarter award. He was awarded this in recognition of outstanding dedication to The Sacramento Police Department and The SPD Magnet Program at Hiram Johnson High School. He truly deserves this award for all his hard work improving student lives.

Quiz Bowl Challenge

Hiram Johnson Law Academy has won 7 out of 10 of the last Criminal Justice Magnet Academy Quiz Bowl challenges. The Quiz Bowl is an academic challenge in which two teams compete head to head and answer questions testing the knowledge of Sac PD radio codes, amendments, penal codes, and general orders ect. On November 10, 2016 we retained our title once again at our own house Hiram Johnson to make it eight of the past 11. This year we placed 1st, C.K. Mclatchy placed 2nd, John F. Kennedy placed 3rd and Grant placed 4th.

Tahoe Park Challenge

Every year our law academy has an event called, Tahoe Park Challenge, which consists of every cadet and academy staff member. Cadets compete in a variety of events, these events teach the cadets about each other and how to work as a team. There are four teams divided by class; Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. Cadets compete in both physical and strategic events. Examples of these events are 2 man tug-o-war, tug-o-war, joust, rescue mission, towel tug, the race, ski race, puzzle, and scramble. This year the class of 2016 was victorious. This day was full of excitement, fun and teamwork.

Hiram Johnson is the SPD All Academy Challenge Champions for the 9th Time!

The Hiram Johnson Law Academy has won the 9 out of 11 SPD all academy championship and last Saturday was no different, as we defended our title at Kennedy High School. This year Hiram Johnson and John F. Kennedy tied for the first place, CKM followed in 2nd and Grant in 3rd. The SPD All Academy challenge is a team building event amongst all four SPD academies that test teamwork abilities of each school. Students are tested in several events including the team puzzles, pyramid race, dodge ball, tug a war and tactical relay. Regardless of the outcome of the challenge, each school learns the importance of teamwork and competition.
Skills USA Results

All nine cadets from Hiram Johnson performed exceptionally well in the competition. Two of the nine cadets placed in the Criminal Justice skills event, in which each cadet was judged on how they handled a felony vehicle stop scenario. Jose Benities won a bronze medal and Jacob Lee received a gold medal. Lee is now the reigning State champion and has advanced to the national competition. The Sacramento Police Foundation and SCUSD Link Learning program were essential in providing this opportunity for our cadets to participate in this year’s Skills USA competition.

Hiram Johnson High School Law Academy sent nine cadets to the Skills USA state competition this past weekend in San Diego to compete in the Criminal Justice and Crime Scene Investigation industry skills sector. The Skills USA state championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in California. Contests began regionally and continue through the state and on to the national levels.

Academy cadets competed against the other three academies, which include JFK, CKM and Grant high school. Grant high school took first for the third year straight, JFK second, Hiram Johnson third and CKM fourth.
This was an excellent experience for all the cadets that participated in the event.
Criminal Justice Career Conference

Academy cadets from all four SPD magnet schools got the amazing opportunity to meet and learn about criminal justice careers from professionals that currently work in the field of corrections, courts and law enforcement. Cadets also received valuable resume training and learned the importance of having a clean background.
